Good info on getting the most for your money. It's important to do the research upfront and have as much cash as possible to pay for it.

And always wait until nobama's giving clunker money (about $4500.00) and bailing out manufactures (another $5000.00)

Don't finance. Save till you can afford a new vehicle.

Good article for the novice buyer and a good refresher for the seasoned buyer. One thing I'd like to add, is don't be in a hurry.

Buy, not lease; Treat your car like your baby but not spoil it with extra-useless options.

One of the reasons to hold on to what I have - avoid the entire purchase scene.

It is always usefull of analyze, beaware of the price, and compare things when look for an auto, or other things for that matter!!

When shopping for my auto, I had travel and talked too at least 6 dealers to look at stock and deals. If there was a simple sige of trickery, I use a similar producer and make an exquse to get out of the place, sometimes for good!!

Buy something that you can afford, not just keeping up with the Joneses.

After having bought several new cars over the years, I have learned:

1. Negotiate your best deal and then let the car buying service at your credit union seek the same car, preferably by VIN. You almost always be humbled. You are not obligated to keep the credit union loan if you don't want it.

2. Use today's Internet car buying services or a dealer's web site. Don't go in person until you have a final price. Motivated sellers will drive the car to you if out of town. Fill out the check before you meet the dealer. Tell seller you left the checkbook at home. Compare only the final drive-out prices, as salesmen have ways to add on charges at the end.

3. I have yet to keep dealer prep, VIN etching and paint and seat upholstery protection off the invoice, but the bottom line was too good to reject, as if those items were not charged for.

Many new Canadians/Americans, used to be called immigrants, have never owned a vehicle so they are easily pushed into something they don't need. The biggest mark-up is on the extras, extended warranties, extra insurance, etc. Buyer beware.

the Wall St. J is showing they are reaching out to the younger crowd; or the live in the city and never had a car before groups.
