JimL1 insists:
'speculators and big oil are still driving up the price of gasoline.'
Superstitions are explanations created to account for things that are not understood. There is a group who always is looking for somebody to "point" to, since they appear not to understand markets and global events.
Before speculators were popular, this group pointed to oil companies, before them, Haliburton, George Bush, and before him, Ronald Reagan. If you really want to understand what drives the prices, start with a basic text on economics.

This is just another article and headline written by some nut, who chose to mix two unrelated subjects in an effort to defame President Obama. The energy plan to reduce oil imports is on track. Speculators and big oil are still driving up the price of gasoline. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess most people forget that in 2000 gas prices were about 1/2 if not less than they were in late 2008. Short term memory problems, I guess?

He's pretty well proven himself clueless on ALL fronts. He certainly hasn't a clue about economics or healthcare costs or employment or how to stimulate economies or racial harmony or separation of church and state or transparency in government or foreign affairs or Iraq or Afghanistan or giving gifts to dignitaries or....pretty much EVERYTHING!

Two separate questions, tied together by what is probably a Repugnant or Tea Party author, whose aim is not to disseminate news but rather to defeat President Obama. "According to the study, the United States reduced net imports of crude oil last year by 10%, or 1 million barrels a day. The U.S. now imports 45% of its petroleum, down from 57% in 2008, and is on track to meet Obama's long-term goal, the administration maintains." ================= ============= =============== ========= ====== === The target is to reduce petroleum imports, They are down from 57% to 45%. DUH!!! =========== =-======= ============ ============ ========== ====== = That speculators are still not under control is a separate matter.

Barry wants high fuel prices and he will have them - and you have No say so! Big oil is selling fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their benefit. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle is, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

We may be reducing our import of foreign oil, but I don't believe that the Obama administration has anything to do with it. Election year spin.

How much does the president have to do with the price of gasoline? A lot, American voters say. According to oil experts and economists, not so much - at least in the short term.

That's because they let the price get so high that people can't afford it. What do they expect? Lesse demand = less to import. Not some almighty energy policy. Drop the price to $2.00/gal, hell even $3.00/gal and see how much we import then.

That's because the White House doesn't control gas prices. Might as well yell at the Easter Bunny about them.

The Big OIl monopoly is just racketeering at the consumers expense!! In the Lansing, Michigan market prices have risen 70 cents in the last month!!! THe Big Oil cartel is pumping the price at the pump and it is just like pirates on the high seas, it's highway robbery on our interstates highway system. The Mob never had it so good!! Our capitalistic system has been hijacked by the Big Oil MOB. WE need congress to inforce the interstate commerce laws and give us consumers some protection frpm the pirates that SET THE PRICES AT THE PUMP!!

This problem wasn't created overnight, it can't be fixed overnight. It will all work out for better or worse, lets just hope that when the time comes and we can't afford oil, that we have alternatives in place.

From reading articles on GasBuddy for several years I know there are several things that the Government could do to lower prices. Another problem is that while the current Administration is pushing "green energy" it is so diffused that it has no impact on transportation fuel prices. Plus electricity prices are up to subsidize the ventures.
It would have been better to pursue one alternative thing the last few years. Either natural gas powered care or electric cars. Both need refueling stations to become practical. Few are being built.

"But independent analysts attribute much of the fall in oil imports to slack U.S. demand in a still-anemic economy. And to a certain degree, they say, the boost in domestic oil and gas production is the result of decisions energy companies made during theGeorge W. Bushadministration to develop key reservoirs.". So did the WH send a THANK YOU note to Bush???
