tigerpaw: the problem is that the industry in and of itself has created this situation by not disclosing what they use. Percentage doesn't need to be disclosed but by not saying WHAT they use in that "proprietory blend" they set themselves up for this. If I don't want to drink a particular soft drink, that's my personal choice. However, I don't have a choice when my water is being contaminated by the fracking and I have no way to change that or opt out--esp. if fracking doesn't occur on my own property.

Regulations = stronger bureaucracy = less freedom and competitiion = higher prices - lost American jobs. Thanks Obama.

The real problem isn't what they use, it's the misinformation & misperceptions the opposition has instilled into many peoples minds, with the aide of the news media and their typical one sided reporting for shock effect. For example they won't report on 99% which are safely performing but will blast the airways & publications with the 1, or the 1% that are at fault.

fraking isn't all bad as some would have the Public believe. So hopefully if they can't complain about hiding the composition of the fraking compounds it will alleviate some leverage of those opposed. Although I doubt it will make much difference because like most manufacturing many potentially dangerous chemicals & compounds are used daily.

I wonder what the environmentalist groups will do next when compliance has been made by gas developers and they still cannot attribute any harmful effects to their drilling?

Reporting what is used is a good first step. It needs to be followed up with a ban on injecting toxic chemicals into the ground. We can have good wells and win 1000 times but just one bad well in the wrong place and we’re screwed.

Transparency is a good thing. Won't quiet the Environmental NIMBY's. But it will in this case Texas help calm the fears of most people.
